This week our Mountain Protected Areas Network member Dawa Steven Sherpa of Nepal can celebrate two major victories: leading another innovative and impressive Eco-Everest Expedition to Mount Everest, and sharply focusing global attention on the urgent need to respond to the destructive impacts of climate change on the mountains of the world.

He and his expedition were featured on the front page of CNN as part of their EcoSolutions report, "Surmounting Climate Change in the Himalayas", which contains images that show the team's eco-friendly activities.Team member Apa Sherpa climbed to Everest's summit for a record-breaking 19th These solar cookers were used to create hot water, crucial for all expeditions, using no carbon-based fueltime in order to display a climate change banner and place some sacred Sherpa offerings to restore the sanctity of the Himalayan sacred valleys and guard them against the negative impacts of rapid climate changes.

Heartiest congratulations to Dawa and his talented team for a successful second ascent of Everest, for demonstrating innovative and effective ways we can help protect the world's mountain environments, and for your efforts to keep world attention focused on these crucially-important mountain issues.
