-- from Harvey Locke, Mountains Biome Network

Please join the IUCN Mountains Biome team for a 3-day symposium on Large Landscape, Connectivity Conservation and Climate Change November 10-12, 2009 as part of the ninth World Wilderness Congress (www.wild9.org) in Merida, Mexico.

WILD 9 will feature important presentations on nature and climate change as well as the Convention on Biological Diversity. It will also be the largest gathering of nature conservation photographers ever.

Connectivity Conservation Management: A Global GuideConnectivity Conservation will be integrated into the entire Congress. The Congress' plenary session on Wednesday November 11 will feature the launch of the book Connectivity Conservation Management: A Global Guide. This will be followed by presentations on connectivity around the world and in Mexico.

The three day IUCN Mountains Biome symposium will start the afternoon of Tuesday November 10 and continue on the afternoons of November 11 and 12. We will include a focus on connectivity conservation in the Himalayas and Altai Sayan building on our work in Nepal last November. It will be enriched by papers on climate change and species range shift and some interesting marine examples.

A more detailed agenda will follow. For more information about WILD 9 visit its website: www.wild9.org. I strongly recommend that you attend the entire congress as well, as the symposium promises to be a remarkable event.
